Ford unveiled the first hint in the design of the F-150 electric pick-up and added a few shots from testing the prototype in demanding conditions.

Ford has been working on the development of the electric version of its best-selling F-150 pickup for a long time, but only now has the carmaker decided to publish the first mysterious photo. The electric F-150 is particularly interesting for its unmissable light line, which extends just under the hood across the entire width of the mask and descends to the bumper.

The mask itself will probably get a textured decor that looks slightly futuristic. This is also underlined by the sharp edges and minimalist space reserved for traditional headlights. The Ford Bronco, which offers a similar square mask, could have served as inspiration for the designers. In his case, however, it is broken at least by round headlights
Despite the carmaker’s efforts to disguise what it seems, it is also likely that the electric F-150 will share some body parts with conventional F-150 models. American colleagues, who have a well-peeked current F-150, point out, for example, similar shapes of mirrors, fenders and hoods.

Instead of the engine, however, there should be a lockable and waterproof “frunk” under the hood – the front trunk. It will offer space for valuables, work tools or other small items that you do not want to leave scattered on the body and exposed to the vagaries of the weather and the uninitiated.
The rugged and fearless appearance of the electric F-150 should correspond to its properties and capabilities. After all, the carmaker recently published a video in which the test prototype under the body of a traditional F-150 is exposed to proper stress on the terrain polygon. At the same time, he had to deal with towing a trailer, extreme inclines, muddy and rocky terrain, etc.

The drive should be taken care of by a pair of electric motors, each on one axle, with a maximum output of at least 336 kW. Ford has previously stated that the electric F-150 will be the most powerful model in the series. According to previous information from patent offices, batteries with hitherto unknown capacity should then be placed in a frame, which will allow a better weight distribution and a reduction of the center of gravity.
The production of the purely electric Ford F-150 will take place at the River Rouge Complex plant, which Ford has owned since 1928. The cars were therefore manufactured here at the time when Henry Ford was at the helm. The first car produced here was the Ford Model A.

Of course, the plant underwent several upgrades, but the last one cost about $ 700 million. In addition, the carmaker plans to employ around 300 new employees, whose task will be to support the production of batteries not only for the purely electric F-150, but also for the hybrid F-150 PowerBoost.
The production of the purely electric Ford F-150 itself should start here in the middle of 2022 and could probably enter the markets at the turn of 2022/2023. So we will probably have to wait a while for specific information.
