Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) today witnessed the groundbreaking of the PT HKML Battery Indonesia Electric Vehicle Industry Factory in Karawang, West Java.
“By saying bismillahirrahmanirrahim, I declare that the groundbreaking of the PT HKML Battery Indonesia Electric Vehicle Battery Industrial Factory has begun,” said Jokowi, Wednesday (15/9/2021).
Jokowi himself was accompanied by Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Minister of Investment/Head of BKPM Bahlil Lahaladia, and Minister of SOEs Erick Thohir.

In addition, the Governor of West Java Ridwan Kamil, the Regent of Karawang Cellica Nurrachadiana, the Korean Ambassador to Indonesia, the President of Hyundai Motor Asia Pacific Headquarters, and the CEO of PT HKML Battery Indonesia were also present.
“We should be grateful today to witness the groundbreaking of the construction of the first electric vehicle battery factory in Indonesia, even the first in Southeast Asia,” said Jokowi.
The Minister of Investment/Head of BKPM Bahlil Lahaladia said that this factory was built with an investment value of US$ 1.1 billion or equivalent to Rp. 21 trillion.
“May 2022 at the latest, God willing, it has been produced. It’s patented, sir. So God willing, we have produced it,” said Bahlil.
