One of the highly contagious variants of Covid-19 first reported in South Africa has already been detected in New York City.
Governor Cuomo says the infected person resides in Connecticut and visited the city to undergo a medical procedure.
So far there are no reports of other infections.
Cuomo notes that the South African variant spreads very easily.
Scientists have expressed concern about the degree of lethality of this strain, and the impact it could have on covid vaccines.
