firearm incidents increase in New York

A 17-year-old is in hospital after being shot in the back after a dispute.

The incident occurred Sunday night, in the East Harlem sector.

According to statistics, there have been at least 777 firearm incidents, a number that dwarfs the total number of episodes for the entire past year.

As of last week, the number of people who have been injured has increased by 81% compared to the same period in 2019.

On the other hand, an incident was reported this Sunday in Brooklyn, in which a police officer shot a man while trying to make an arrest, but was not injured.

Investigators say the 32-year-old man tried to draw a weapon.

The incident occurred early this morning near Myrtle Throop avenues in Bedford-Stuyvesant.

The suspect was not hit by the bullet, and was eventually arrested.

Police say they found a gun at the scene. No charges have yet been filed and the officer who shot is under investigation.
