The commissioner of the New York Police Department (NYPD), Dermot Shea, announced that there were four attacks with sharps, in a period of 24 hours.
All four incidents were isolated but all took place on the public transportation system.
Similarly, all the attacks occurred on line A of the subway.
Two victims lost their lives and the rest are recovering.
Following the attacks, 500 additional police officers were immediately summoned.
