Factors Preventing Astronauts from Landing on Saturn: Gas, Electric Current, Temperature, and Pressure

Jakarta – Pre-astronauts have successfully carried out various space missions. However, the mission to land on the planet Saturn was never successful.

Reporting from detikEdu, Saturn is the second largest planet in the solar system. Saturn is so big that it can fit 760 Earths inside it. The distance between Saturn and Earth is about 1.2 billion kilometers.

Even though it is large, no astronaut has yet succeeded in landing on the planet. There are at least 3 factors that caused the mission to land on Saturn to never be successful.

1. Gas Giant Planet

Quoting IFL Science, the first reason that astronauts have never succeeded in getting to the planet Saturn is because this planet has a very large gas content. The gas on Saturn consists almost entirely of hydrogen, helium, as well as remnants of ice containing water, ammonia and methane.

In the inner layer, hydrogen becomes liquid under pressure, then below it is the heavier helium. Below that, hydrogen is converted into metallic hydrogen. Meanwhile, Saturn’s core is estimated to contain rocks 10 times the mass of Earth.

It is thought that Saturn has a core made of iron and nickel. However, scientists are not yet sure whether it is liquid, like the previous layers or like the solid core of the Earth. Even though the core of the planet Saturn is liquid, if humans were inside it, it is estimated that they would still be able to stand on the rocks.

2. Large electric current

Quoting Business Insider, the second factor that makes it difficult for astronauts to set foot on the planet Saturn is its magnetic field which produces very large electric currents that heat the atmosphere at the poles. This could disrupt the existing systems on the astronaut aircraft.

The electric current that produces a magnetic field is found in the interior of Saturn’s hydrogen layer. Saturn’s magnetic field is known to be smaller than Earth’s, but it could have a magnetic field 580 times greater than Earth’s.

The strength of the magnetic field obtained from Saturn is estimated to be around 1/20 of the strength of Jupiter.

3. Saturn’s temperature and pressure are high

The final reason why astronauts never land on Saturn is the existing temperature and pressure. The amount of pressure will prevent astronauts from being able to reach it.

Atmospheric pressure on Earth is just over 1 bar, while on Saturn it reaches more than 1 million bars. If astronauts manage to survive destruction, they will burn in temperatures reaching tens of thousands of degrees Celsius.

Therefore, no one ever thought about how to get there. Because astronauts will be destroyed if they dare to land on Saturn.

This large planet has a temperature of 83,000 degrees Celsius, hotter than the surface of the sun. So it’s hot enough to destroy any spacecraft that comes there.
