Ukraine’s Struggle: The Need for International Support and Action Against Putin’s Forces

“After a year and a half of bloody fighting, the war in Ukraine is not close to the end. The indecision of the Western partners and the delay in arms deliveries have allowed [Krievijas prezidenta Vladimira] Putin’s forces to strengthen the trenches and deepen the trenches,” Landsbergis said at the weekend at the 30th anniversary congress of the conservative party “Fatherland Union – Christian Democrats of Lithuania”.

“Each regained centimeter requires the greatest dedication of Ukrainians,” said the party leader.

“There is a saying in the West: ‘We will be with Ukraine as long as it takes.’ As long as the Ukrainians are moving forward. And if they don’t move forward, does that mean we won’t be around anymore?” asked the Lithuanian foreign minister rhetorically.

Landsbergis emphasized that Lithuania and other allies are responsible for Ukraine’s ability to move forward.

“If the equipment had been delivered earlier, if its deliveries had been larger, maybe we would be talking about a different result today,” the politician said.

Putin’s victory in Ukraine “would be the beginning of a new world”, where authoritarian regimes would strengthen, warned Landsbergis.

“Lithuania’s voice must be clear and loud. Ukraine must win. It must win the war, it must win diplomacy. It must not only recover the territories seized since 2014, but also become a member state of NATO and the European Union. It must achieve justice in an international tribunal and fair compensation and restoration of what was destroyed must be received,” the foreign minister said, stressing that “Lithuania will fight for it until Ukraine wins”.
