FAA Grounds Boeing 737 MAX 9 Planes for Safety Inspection and Maintenance After Safety Concerns

“In the name of the safety of American travelers, the FAA is suspending flights on the Boeing 737 MAX 9 until extensive inspection and maintenance is performed and inspection data is reviewed,” the FAA said.

Earlier on Friday, the FAA said it plans to increase oversight of Boeing’s quality control measures, including the 737 MAX production line and suppliers.

An “Alaska Airlines” plane with 171 passengers and six crew members on board, on January 5, shortly after takeoff, a panel installed in place of an unnecessary emergency exit fell out. The plane returned to Portland Airport and made an emergency landing. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.

Since then, the FAA has grounded 171 Boeing 737 MAX 9 planes from air traffic until they are inspected. This has caused disturbances in the performance of hundreds of flights. For example, Alaska Airlines, which has 65 737 MAX 9 planes, said it was canceling about 110-150 flights a day until Tuesday.

“Boeing 737 MAX” planes were not allowed to transport passengers for a long time after tragic air crashes in 2018 and 2019.
