In light of the longstanding regulations of providing lessons for older students only online, experts in Italy see this having an impact on children’s development.
Psychiatrist Massimo di Gianantonio in Rome said that studying at home status has an effect on students’ mental state and personal development.
The doctor explained that the confusion between the real and the virtual increases among young people who are already affected by technology and digital media, noting that it is believed that this can slow down the time spent on maturity, independence and the development of a sense of responsibility.
Students in many Italian cities oppose so-called homeschooling. In Rome and Turin, dozens of young people have staged a sit-in in front of their schools during the past 14 days to demand that they be allowed once again to receive their lessons in personal attendance at school.
