Education – Hanover – New school week starts with reduced compulsory corona testing – education

Hanover (dpa / lni) – From the new week onwards, many schoolchildren in Lower Saxony have to test themselves less frequently for the corona virus. According to the Ministry of Education, the obligation to test will be reduced from five to three times a week from Monday. This is valid until April 1st.

The only exceptions to this obligation are students who have already been vaccinated three times against the corona virus. The three tests per week are then usually scheduled on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The tests should always be done at home so that possible infections are not carried to school. According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), around 35 percent of 12 to 17 year olds in Lower Saxony have received a booster vaccination.

After the Easter holidays from April 20th to April 29th, all students have to test themselves every day. This so-called safety phase is intended to identify infections from the holiday season. After April 29, there will no longer be any obligation. If you want to test yourself further, you get three tests per week.

However, from March 21st, elementary school students will no longer be required to wear masks in class. From May 2nd, this is also planned for the other grades. In the corridors, the mask is still mandatory in all loosening steps, but not in the playground.
