Dramatic rain and floods have affected parts of Sweden

Gävle municipality is hardest hit. In the rest of the county, it has dropped 40 to 50 millimeters during the night.

– There has been twice as much rain in one night as in a whole month, says Therese Fougman, meteorologist at SMHI.

School starts have been postponed, roads have been flooded, and cars are stuck in the water. An apartment building had to be evacuated after parts of a wall collapsed, he writes Expressen.

There are also major problems for train traffic in Gävle and Dalarna.

Residents in the areas around Gävle were warned last night against going out. The emergency services are said to have received around 400 emergency reports.

The storm is now moving west over Dalarna, where there will be more rain during the day.
