BREAST SELF-EXAMINATION IS THE BEST PREVENTION
– This control must be done monthly from the age of 20 and throughout life.
– Determine one day a month to do it; it is best between the 5th and the 10th day of the menstrual cycle.
THIS CANCER MOVES SILENTLY AND THESE ARE THE RISK FACTORS:
Be over 40 years old
Family history (mother or sister)
Not having had pregnancies
Not having breastfed
Having your first child after age 30
Menstruation before 12 years
Menopause after age 52
Hormone replacement therapy for more than 5 years
Excessive use of alcohol and tobacco
SELF-EXPLORATION IN 5 STEPS
1 Stand in front of the mirror and with your arms close to your hips; see if there is any alteration.
– A lump in the breast or armpit. Increased thickness or swelling of the breast.
– Nipple discharge, including blood.
– Irritation or subsidence. Redness or peeling.
– Sagging of the nipple or pain. Any change in the size or shape of the breast.
2 Stand with arms raised. See if you see any of the above alterations.
3 Raise your arms and see if: When you compress the nipple, fluid or bleeding comes out of one or both nipples.
4 Lie down and feel your breasts with your fingertips.
– With circular movements from the inside out, following the needles of a clock, to determine the presence of lumps or pain.
– Movements from top to bottom, to detect any anomaly.
– Repeat, from the outside to the inside.
– It touches from the clavicle to the upper part of the abdomen, and from the armpit to the neckline.
5 Finally, feel your breasts while standing or sitting.
– Perform the same movements as described in step 4.
