Dominican Republic under alert before Fred’s passage

The Directorate of the Emergency Operations Center (COE) raised the level of provinces on alert due to the passage of tropical storm Fred through the national territory.

According to the COE, at 4:00 am Tropical Storm Fred was located near latitude 17.8 north and longitude 68.0 west, this is about 70 km southeast of Isla Saona and about 220 km southeast of Santo Domingo, maximum sustained winds of 65 kph, its winds with storm intensity extend to about 75 km outside its center.

He said Fred is moving west at about 17 mph.

The COE maintains a Yellow alert for tropical storm conditions from Saona Island in La Romana to Manzanillo Bay in Montecristi, on the border with Haiti and from Saona Island to Punta Palenque in San Cristóbal.

In red are eight provinces: La Altagracia, La Romana, Gran Santo Domingo, San Pedro de Macorís, El Seibo, San Cristóbal, Monsignor Nouel and San José de Ocoa.

In yellow (10 provinces) are Duarte, Samaná, Puerto Plata, Monte Plata, Espaillat, La Vega, Sánchez Ramírez, Hato Mayor, María Trinidad Sánchez and Azua.

While in green (13 provinces) Santiago, Santiago Rodríguez, Dajabón, Valverde, San Juan, Independencia, Bahoruco, Monte Cristi, Hermanas Mirabal, Peravia, Pedernales, Barahona and Elías Piña are located.
