Doctors reveal the effect of vitamin D deficiency on the course of COVID-19 | News | News

Studies by British doctors have shown that vitamin D deficiency can contribute to a more severe course of coronavirus infection. On Sunday, November 8, the newspaper reports Express.

Doctors, studying the statistics, found that in regions where seasonal vitamin D deficiency is common, severe cases of COVID-19 are more often recorded.

“Vitamin D deficiency is the dominant risk factor for severe coronavirus disease,” says Dr. Garrett Davis.

However, the author of the study emphasizes that a year-long study cycle is required to fully study the issue.

According to Davis, vitamin D is very important for immunity and can protect the body from the penetration of coronavirus.

The specialist noted that the replicating coronavirus can deplete the ACE2 protein, causing a “cytokine storm” that kills people.

The scientist believes that adequate levels of vitamin D can help prevent uncontrolled inflammation.

Earlier, on November 5, Director General of the National Medical Research Center. V.A. Almazov of the Ministry of Health of Russia, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Evgeny Shlyakhto said that vitamin D deficiency is an important predictor of the unfavorable development of coronavirus infection – both moderate and severe course of the disease. You can fill the vitamin deficiency in the form of tablets or drops. In addition, there are many foods that contain large amounts of vitamin D: marine fish oil, egg yolk, dairy products.
