Diplomat Concurrently Russian Secret Service Dies in Front of Embassy in Germany

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Diplomat Russia found dead on the sidewalk near the Russian embassy in Berlin, German, in the last month. The German government suspects the diplomat is a Russian secret agent.

The body of the 35-year-old diplomat was found on October 19, 2021. He fell from the top floor of the Russian Embassy building in Berlin, the capital of Germany. However, the cause of his fall and the cause of his death are still unclear.

Der Spiegel media reported that the diplomat had previously served as the second secretary of the Russian Embassy in Berlin since 2019. However, the German Security Authority said the diplomat was an undercover Russian FSB agent.

Russia’s FSB itself is the country’s federal security body. Previously, Western countries linked the FSB with the deaths of Georgians in exile. This man was shot dead in Berlin Gardens in 2019.

The Kremlin denies its country’s links to the killings.

Meanwhile, the Russian embassy did not approve an autopsy on the body of the deceased diplomat. This ban makes it impossible for German public prosecutors to conduct investigations.

Even so, both Russia and Germany acknowledged the death of this diplomat.

“The tragic events that befell Russian diplomats occurred on October 19, 2021,” the Russian embassy said in a statement.

“All formalities related to the return of the body of this diplomat to his place of residence are being completed by competent law enforcement and appropriate German medical authorities.”

“We consider the speculations that have emerged in some Western media regarding this tragic incident to be completely untrue.”

A spokesman for the German Foreign Ministry told CNN that the Berlin government is aware of the diplomat’s death, but on the grounds of protecting the relatives and others concerned, there will be no further details regarding the incident at this time.”

This is not the first time Russia and Germany have had problems.

Previously, a 57-year-old British man was arrested by German police for allegedly selling classified data to Russian intelligence. He was immediately detained in the police area of Potsdam, Germany.

The known motive is that the employee received a sum of money for the sale of data provided to Russian Intelligence.
