The contract was signed with DB Engineering & Consulting, which is part of Deutsche Bahn. At the first stage, by the end of 2021, the company will help Ukrzaliznytsia to separate passenger transportation from freight and ensure effective management. The company’s experts should determine the approximate need of “Ukrzaliznytsia” in investments for the renewal of rolling stock, production of its own trains and their purchase. Also, DB will develop a roadmap for passenger transport reform for the next five years and a model for their financing.

According to the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Oleksandr Kubrakov, the transfer to the management of passenger traffic is the first step towards a complete transformation of railway traffic in Ukraine. He noted that in 2021 the state financed the passenger transportation of Ukrzaliznytsia for the first time.

“With proper financing and relying on the experience of the German railway, we are starting a large construction at Ukrzaliznytsia, which will affect the entire infrastructure, rolling stock and service. We are striving for German quality in the Ukrainian rail transport market,” Kubrakov said.
