Depp is replaced by Chalamet. The first trailer from the film shows him playing Willy Wonka

The chocolate factory owner and candy inventor Willy Wonka from Roald Dahl’s children’s books has already been portrayed by Gene Wilder or, in the new millennium, by Johnny Depp. This year, the role will be played by the popular actor Timothée Chalamet. On Tuesday night, Warner Bros. released the first trailer for the film, simply titled Wonka.

The film, which will be released in Czech cinemas on December 14, predates the books by the British novelist Dahl. It will focus on the youth of a mysterious, eccentric manufacturer of chocolate and all kinds of sweets, from ice cream that does not melt to chewing gum that does not lose its taste.

The film will also show Wonka’s encounter with a fictional dwarf tribe, the Umpa-lumps, who become cheap labor in a chocolate factory. One such person, who dances and plays the flute, was portrayed by Hugh Grant with the help of computer tricks.

According to to Variety.com it will be a family fantasy musical genre. In addition to the twenty-seven-year-old Timothée Chalamet, known from the films Give me your name or Dune, the new feature also features actress Olivia Colman or Rowan Atkinson aka Mr. Bean.

Wonka was directed by Paul King, the director of both The Adventures of Paddington Bear. According to America’s CNN promises to answer “every question you’ve ever had about Wonka” this way.

The creator had access to the estate of writer Roald Dahl during the preparation and researched early versions of the 1964 book Dwarf and the Chocolate Factory, in which Willy Wonka first appeared. Eight years later, Dahl wrote a sequel called Carl and the Big Glass Elevator.

Timothée Chalamet he said magazine that he enjoyed taking on the role of Willy Wonka if only for the chance to appeal to a younger and more optimistic audience than he usually speaks to. “Working at a time of such a tense political atmosphere in the country and so much bad news on a film aimed at such a young, non-cynical audience was simply a joy,” he said.
