Democrats’ TV debate – “Arrogant billionaire”: Warren attacks Bloomberg

The pre-election campaign in the United States is in full swing: billionaire Michael Bloomberg is part of the Democrats’ ninth TV debate – and has to face the sharp attacks of his rivals.

The media billionaire is in the TV debate among US Democratic presidential candidates Michael Bloomberg been sharply attacked by his rivals. The leftist senator Elizabeth Warren accused the former Mayor of New York on Wednesday evening (local time) for making inhuman statements in the past and supporting “racist politics”. It shouldn’t be about swapping one “arrogant billionaire” for another – president Donald Trump by Bloomberg.

The leftist senator Bernie Sanders accused Bloomberg of having supported the police’s “outrageous” crackdown on African Americans and Hispanos while serving as mayor. He could therefore not win over these important groups of voters.

Bloomberg has come under fire for the former “Stop and Frisk” police strategy, in which mainly African-Americans and Hispanos were checked on the open road without a specific reason. Bloomberg has now apologized for the discriminatory approach. He is also accused of sexist comments in the past.

Bloomberg struggles – and distributes itself

Bloomberg opposed the Las Vegas TV debate. He said Sanders had “no chance” of defeating Trump in the November presidential election. The multi-billionaire criticized, among other things, the Senator’s plans for statutory health insurance for all US citizens. If Sanders gets the Democratic presidential nomination, that means four more years for Trump in the White House, Bloomberg said. “We cannot allow that.”

After the first two primaries in the states of Iowa and New Hampshire and before the primaries in Nevada and South Carolina, there is a lot at stake with the Democrats.

In addition to Bloomberg, Sanders and Warren, the former Vice President took part in the debate Joe Biden, the former mayor Pete Buttigieg and the senator Amy Klobuchar part. Sanders is currently the clear leader in nationwide surveys. Bloomberg, who first took part in a Democratic TV debate on Wednesday, and Biden wrestle for second place.

Bloomberg had only entered the Democratic candidate race in November. Since then, the multi-billionaire has invested hundreds of millions of dollars from his personal wealth in his campaign. Bloomberg has not yet competed in the previous primaries – he wants to concentrate on the so-called Super Tuesday on March 3, which is also taking place in 14 states. Buttigieg and Sanders led the Democratic primary in Iowa and New Hampshire.
