Airlines Delta Air Lines and American Airlines have announced the suspension of several routes between American airports and Milan due to the coronavirus epidemic, the level of alert having been raised in the United States.

In a statement released on Sunday, Delta said it would suspend all flights between John F. Kennedy New York International Airport (JFK) and Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP). Delta’s last New York – Milan flight will take off on Monday, while the last Milan – New York flight is scheduled for Tuesday. Service is scheduled to resume in early May. Delta said its routes between Rome and Atlanta were unchanged.

For its part, American warned on Saturday evening to suspend its flights between New York and Milan as well as those between Miami Airport (MIA) and Milan until April 25 “Due to a drop in demand”.

The two groups clarified that customers whose flight is canceled may make a new reservation when traffic resumes or be reimbursed.

The announcements follow recommendations made by US officials on Saturday that their nationals should not travel to certain areas of Italy and South Korea where there are large outbreaks of the virus.

Delta and American, as well as the third major American airline United Airlines, had already announced in recent weeks the reduction or suspension of certain flights to China, where the epidemic broke out in late December, as well as to several Asian countries .
