The Head of Communicable Disease Control and Prevention at the Palembang Health Office, Yudhi Setiawan, said that most of the deaths were from the elderly over 60 years old and had comorbidities. This should be watched out for because the corona virus is a threat to everyone.
“The death rate due to Covid-19 in Palembang has reached 4.4 percent, mostly the elderly. This figure is quite high,” said Yudhi, Sunday (6/20).
According to him, the death was caused by the lack of public awareness regarding this case. As a result, they do not immediately come to the health facility for treatment even though their condition has worsened.
“Most of them are handled slowly. It is very dangerous because if the patient has comorbidities such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease,” he said.
Therefore, his party appealed to the public to understand what to do if they had symptoms of corona, such as shortness of breath and body temperature above 38 degrees. Officers also continue to carry out tracing, testing, and treatment, to break the transmission.
“If you come to the hospital quickly, at least it can be treated quickly. Unfortunately, many people are afraid to seek treatment,” he said.
Public concerns are getting higher as news circulates that many patients are deliberately diagnosed with Covid-19 if they go to health facilities for treatment. Whereas the diagnosis can only be known through the Polymarese Chain Reaction (PCR).
