Deconfinement: despite the ban, 400 people attend a football match in Strasbourg

Illegally, between 300 and 400 people attended a football match between the Neuhof and Hautepierre, two districts of Strasbourg, at the Paco-Mateo stadium of the Joie et Santé Koenigshoffen (JSK) club, Sunday 24 May. A meeting announced a few days earlier on Facebook and immediately condemned by Serge Oehler, deputy mayor of Strasbourg, and who also promised sanctions.

The progressive deconfinement plan initiated on May 11 to prevent the spread of the coronavirus bans gatherings of more than 10 people at least until June 1 everywhere in the territory. A changing situation depending on the health context.

On site, the municipal police intervened, but could not prevent the holding of the event. “We have videos, we will check and there will be sanctions”, warned Serge Oehler on France Blue Sunday night. The deputy explained that officials of amateur clubs have been called to order in recent days by the municipality as well as by the Alsace football district, because “several training sessions were held despite the ban”. The municipality went so far as to withdraw the goals of several Strasbourg stadiums, as a precaution.
