More than 100 people in domestic quarantine: Landkreis Leer is looking for reasons for corona cases after visiting a restaurant – politics

When the restaurant was reopened after the corona measures in the Leer district in Lower Saxony were relaxed, at least ten people were infected with the corona virus. The district of Leer is now examining indications of rule violations in the restaurant.

“From the information we have, there is evidence that corona rules may have been violated on the evening of May 15,” said District Administrator Matthias Groote (SPD). The Ordnungsamt must clarify whether this was the case in an administrative offense procedure.

At the weekend it became known that eleven people in Lower Saxony had been infected with the corona virus in connection with a visit to a restaurant on May 15 in the Leer district. Another person from another district subsequently became infected. Home quarantine was ordered for 118 people.

In the meantime, other people have reported to the health department, who according to their own statements were in the restaurant after May 15, but were not on the guest lists. “According to the Corona requirements, this documentation is mandatory,” said the district. In addition, people said that they had been to interviews and to try out cooking in the restaurant. The health department is also investigating these cases.

The infection process reflects the concerns of medical professionals, who are now warning of a second wave in view of the relaxation of the corona measures. Where several people come together and safety measures may not be observed, a sudden infection can not be ruled out.

This was also remembered at the weekend by the infection in a Baptist church in Frankfurt, where more than 40 people were infected with the virus during a church service. The question is, therefore, how, for example, the planned cancellation of the corona protective measures in Thuringia will have an impact from the beginning of June.

Minister sees no reason to withdraw any easing

The operator of the restaurant “Alte Scheune” in the municipality of Moormerland had invited around 40 selected guests on May 15, including representatives of companies who had supported him. He initially stood as a cook in the kitchen and later joined the guests to toast with them, he told the German Press Agency.

The distance and hygiene rules have been observed, said the man, who does not want to be mentioned by name in the media. A few days after the evening, he was informed by a guest about his corona infection, he said. The virus was then also tested by him.

If they actually got infected in the restaurant, this would be the first known case of this kind since the restaurants were reopened. The managing director of the Hotel and Restaurant Association (Dehoga) Lower Saxony, Rainer Balke, said in an interview with the “Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung” about the case in Moormerland: “Apparently some things were wrong and things went wrong.”

Lower Saxony’s Minister of Health Carola Reimann sees no need to move away from the relaxation course for restaurants. “According to initial knowledge, the infection is not due to a normal visit to a restaurant, instead a private party was apparently celebrated there,” said Reimann on dpa on Saturday.

The country had always pointed out that the corona loosening was associated with a certain risk. “We will not be able to completely prevent contagion in the future either,” said the minister. In such a case, it was crucial that the local authorities consistently track all contacts in order to narrow the infection process as closely as possible. “This is exactly what is happening in the district of Leer.” (dpa, tsp)
