Dead and injured after a car driver rams into a group of cyclists in Germany | NOW

A 36-year-old man hit a group of cyclists in Mannheim with his car on Sunday. A 71-year-old cyclist has died. Three other people were seriously injured, police said. The motorist is said to have previously killed his 69-year-old father in Ellerstadt, 17 kilometers west of Mannheim.

After a chase by the police, the driver got out of his car and jumped into the Rhine. According to the police, who also deployed a helicopter, the man was probably in a mental state of emergency. He has since been arrested.

Mannheim is located in southwestern Germany, near Heidelberg in the state of Baden-Württemberg.

Germany was also shaken on Wednesday when a man drove his car into a crowd in Berlin. A teacher was killed and 29 others, many of them children, were injured. Six people are still in life-threatening condition. Later it became known that this motorist also suffered from psychological problems.
