Former President of the European Parliament David Sasoli, who died on January 11, has suffered from myeloma, a blood cancer, for 10 years. That is why on December 26 he was admitted to the Aviano Oncology Center, Corriere della Sera reported.

The former journalist’s health deteriorated sharply before Christmas due to pneumonia. It was the result of Legionnaires’ disease. Sasoli himself spoke about it in a video from November 9, in order to refute the speculators on social networks with COVID and the vaccines against it.

The Aviano Institute of Health initially sent a succinct statement to the media about the cause of death, saying it was due to a breakdown in the immune system. The Aviano Center is one of the best in Europe for the treatment of blood diseases, including leukemia.

Although Sasoli’s condition was kept under control after his blood cancer, his health deteriorated irreversibly after suffering from pneumonia due to Legionnaires’ disease.

The coffin with the remains of David Sasoli was exhibited for worship in a hall on the Capitol Hill, where the Roman City Hall is. President Sergio Matarella and Prime Minister Mario Draghi have already paid their last respects to the deceased Italian. The funeral with state honors will take place on January 14 at the Church of Santa Maria della Angeli in Rome. The head of state Matarella and the highest officials from the EU will be present.
