Darmstadt-Dieburg: New Corona scam

Darmstadt-Dieburg. Even at the beginning of the corona pandemic, this exceptional situation brought criminals to the scene: Hesse’s Interior Minister Peter Beuth warned against false public health officials, fake shops for protective masks or phishing emails at the beginning of April. Even then, fraudsters had tried to take advantage of the insecurity of some people through Corona.

Now the Cyber Competence Center Hesse warns of a new scam in connection with Covid-19: For a few days now, emails and letters have been sent that are said to come from the “Federal Agency for Disease Protection” and are intended to ask the recipients to agree To undergo COVID-19 test. The test should be sent as a cash on delivery package for around 100 euros. However, the letters are fakes, there is no “Federal Agency for Disease Protection”. The warning could come in time for the Darmstadt-Dieburg district. When asked by ECHO, police spokeswoman Andrea Löb said: “We have not yet heard of any cases in the district or in southern Hesse.” Since such scams are not regionally limited via the Internet, Löb also warns of such emails. “We cannot rule out that the stitch will get here.”

Police advise:
Delete email immediately

Löb advises anyone who receives such an email should never react to the demands and delete the email immediately. If there is any doubt about the authenticity of a letter, those affected can contact the police headquarters in South Hesse.

The Hessen Cyber Competence Center also requests that older family members or neighbors in particular be informed about this new fraud method.
