“Custom Modified Volkswagen T1 with Porsche Engine: A Collector’s Dream”

The first Volkswagen Transporter has several features that make it interesting for car enthusiasts and collectors. But the performance between them probably won’t be…

The Volkswagen Type 2 T1 appeared in 1950 with a 1131 cc flat four3, providing a maximum power of 18 kW and a maximum torque of 67 Nm. The highlight was the 1500 version from 1965 to 1967, powered by a fifteen-cylinder engine with a power of 32 kW and a torque of 102 Nm.

That’s why we were interested in an advertisement in which a German owner offers a beautiful T1 from 1962 and claims that his van has a power of 261 kW, i.e. 355 hp! You can probably guess that it is not a production Type 2. And you are right, this car underwent a significant transformation in 2012, which made it very much a Porsche.

We already know the basis, it is a T1 from 1962. However, the “Busík” was completely renovated and modified to look like the version from 1956. The paintwork, combining sand green and palm green, also corresponds to it. But the look from the 1950s was to be complemented by more modern and somewhat juicier technology.

The car has a modified and strengthened frame, it also received a rear axle from a Porsche 911 generation 964, adjustable rear shock absorbers and a trapezoidal axle at the front. The brakes were also changed, the fronts come from a Porsche 944 Turbo, the rears from a 964. The car sits on 15-inch BBS magnesium wheels shod with 195/45 front and 245/40 rear tires.

These modifications were needed because the main goal was to install a more powerful engine from Porsche. The flat six-cylinder engine from the 911 Turbo generation 964 was chosen. The turbocharged unit with a volume of 3.3 liters had covered about 40,000 kilometers at the time of the rebuilding of the car, but before being stored in the T1, it went through a “general inspection”. The engine is connected to a five-speed manual gearbox, which also comes from the Porsche 911. The new powertrain is complemented by several new “performance” parts.

And the seller also points out that the Transporter weighs just 1240 kilograms, which is quite a bit for 355bhp…

The interior, of course, underwent a transformation, in terms of functionality and comfort. The cabin features real and artificial leather, and the rear seat can easily be folded into a bed for two people.

The fast Volkswagen T1, which is said to have driven only 11,000 kilometers since the conversion, is up for grabs for 115 thousand euros, which translates to about 2.7 million crowns.
