Covid is not over yet, Indonesia’s neighbors are actually ‘hit’ by a new epidemic

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Australia is currently hit by a flu outbreak. This can be seen from the case finding records found by the Federal Government of the Kangaroo State.

Collect The Straits Times, official data showed there were 65,770 cases of flu in May. This is more than double the record during a severe outbreak in 2019. Overall, from January 1 to June 19, Canberra has recorded 147,155 cases.

“Of these, 55,101 or more than a third have occurred since June 5. There have been 54 flu-related deaths,” the report said.

This increase in cases occurred as Australia began to relax its Covid-19 health protocols after strong tightening. This is thought to open space for flu and Covid-19 to be more contagious when residents who were previously under strict lockdown had low antibodies.

Federal Health Secretary Mark Butler said the winter flu and the Covid-19 outbreak could put pressure on the health care system.

“We are seeing an increasing number of people seeking treatment for respiratory illnesses from healthcare professionals and hospitals,” he said in a statement.

Government data also shows that there are 600,000 children under two in the country who have never had the flu. This prompted the governments of several states to return to campaigning against flu vaccination programs.

“Only about one in three people in New South Wales (NSW) have received their flu vaccine this year,” said NSW chief health officer Kerry Chant.

“We really need to see that number go up, especially among vulnerable groups like young children and the elderly who are most at risk of severe disease.”

Even so, experts have warned about the obstacles that may be encountered in this vaccination campaign. This was caused by the flu vaccination campaign that was carried out after the Covid-19 vaccination.

Associate director at the National Center for Immunization Research and Surveillance, Professor Nicholas Wood, said it was likely that citizens would be fed up with vaccines after the Covid-19 vaccine. This then made them refuse to receive the vaccine for a while.

“Vaccine fatigue may lead some people to delay or avoid the flu vaccine,” he said.
