Thus, people over 60 years of age, as well as other professional groups (Security Forces and Corps, livestock farmers, penitentiary institutions) will be able to receive both vaccines.

The Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs thanks the Andalusians for their responsibility and commitment to public health given the current coverage figures just three weeks after the start of the campaign. And today almost 50% of those over 85 years of age has already been vaccinated and more than 25% those over 70as reported in a press release.

In addition, nearly 30,000 children between 6 and 59 months They have so far received the flu vaccine and 85% of people in nursing homes have been immunized with doses against flu and covid. The vaccination campaign against flu and covid 2023/2024 started the past October 9 with the administration of doses to people in nursing homes and disability centers; people over 85 years of age, as well as health and social health professionals.

Since October 16, those over 70 have also been vaccinated; to children 6 months or older, adolescents and adults with chronic pathologies; to highly dependent people in their homes and professional caregivers; to pregnant and postpartum women, and children’s anti-flu is administered to children from 6 to 59 months. Starting in December, household members of people over 60 years of age, people with chronic pathologies and risk situations, and pregnant and postpartum women will be vaccinated against flu and covid.

The Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs recommends that all target groups be vaccinated against flu and covid to effectively and safely prevent serious infection from these viruses, avoiding hospitalization. Likewise, it recognizes and values the efforts of health professionals, especially the work of nurses, so that vaccines are administered in a timely manner.

More doses against the flu this campaign

For this campaign, the Junta de Andalucía has acquired 7.5% more doses against the flu than in 2022, which represents a total of 2.2 million. This increase is mainly due to one of the most notable novelties of the campaign: the lowering of the starting age of flu vaccination in adults, who will now begin to be vaccinated systematically from the age of 60, just like the vaccination against covid.

People included in the target groups can ask another through the Salud Responde application or by telephone, ClicSalud+ or at your health center. Regarding the coverage of the 2022-2023 anti-flu campaign, in Andalusia more than 70% of those over 65 years of age were vaccinated; 46% in the child population from 6 to 59 months, being the first time that they were included in the systematic vaccination; 81.3% in pregnant women; and 50.6% in health and social health professionals.

Specifically, from October 3, 2022 to the end of April 2023, 1,953,383 doses were administered, which is 206,662 more than the 2021-2022 campaign. So it has been the year that the most flu doses were administered in the history of Andalusia.
