The country totals 127,322 deaths and 2,629,372 cases since the beginning of the pandemic, according to the balance sheet made at 1:00 am this Wednesday in Lisbon.
The average number of new daily cases in the United States has been over 40,000 since last week, largely because of the spread of the new coronavirus in southern and western states such as Florida, Texas, California and Arizona.
New York remains the state most severely affected by the coronavirus in the United States, with 393,454 confirmed cases and 32,032 deaths, a number just below that of Brazil, the United Kingdom and Italy.
In New York City alone, 23,096 people died.
New York is followed by neighboring New Jersey, with 15,035 dead, Massachusetts, with 8053, and Illinois, with 6923.
Other states with a large number of deaths are Pennsylvania (6649), Michigan (6193), California (6013), Connecticut (4322).
In terms of infections, California is second only to New York, with 226,851 cases.
The United States is the country with the most deaths and the most confirmed cases of infection.
The University of Washington Institute of Health Metrics and Assessments, whose models for the evolution of the pandemic are often used by the White House, estimates that the country will reach October with about 180,000 deaths.
