Saarland
After seven weeks of school closure, some of the pupils started teaching again on May 4 in Saarland. It starts for around 26,000 children and adolescents who take a final exam or switch to a secondary school in the next school year, as the Ministry of Education in Saarbrücken announced.
These include fourth graders at primary schools, pupils in ninth and tenth grades at community and special schools, vocational students and high school graduates. The school start in the corona pandemic is accompanied by strict hygiene requirements.
Still allowed the Saarland Since Monday, for example, private meetings with members of another household. Services have been allowed again since Sunday. Mosques and synagogues may also reopen if the number of participants is limited and with distance rules.

Museums, hairdressers, cosmetic studios, pedicure practices, piercing and tattoo studios are also allowed to reopen. Zoos, animal parks and playgrounds can also be re-entered.
Saxony
In Saxony Almost 4,000 hairdressers have been able to reopen since Monday, as have cosmetic salons, museums, libraries, zoos and playgrounds. Sports clubs have been allowed to use their outdoor facilities again since May 4th.
However, everyone must meet strict hygiene and protection requirements to prevent the corona virus from spreading further. In addition, child protection and youth welfare facilities are no longer closed. From Wednesday onwards, more boys and girls will be able to return to their schools: This initially applies to schoolchildren of all pre-school classes, vocational schools, high schools and special schools. In elementary and special schools, grade 4 may go back.
There is an innovation in contacts: From Monday onwards you can meet people from your own household, your partner or another person and their partner outside in Saxony. Before that, it was only allowed to meet people from the household or another person. A family or shared apartment can meet a couple outside. A minimum distance of 1.5 meters must be kept from other people. People are also asked not to visit relatives. Since Monday, up to 50 people have also been allowed to attend outdoor gatherings.
There is also relaxation when shopping: Larger shops are allowed to open if they limit their sales space to 800 square meters. Furniture stores can also reopen regardless of their size. Shopping centers must present concepts before opening and coordinate them with the health department. Mouth-to-nose coverings are still mandatory in local traffic and in shops.
Saxony-Anhalt
In Saxony-Anhalt, the new week brings a whole bunch of relaxation. At the beginning of Monday, up to five people can come together, not all of whom live in one household, as the new Containment Ordinance comes into force. So far, a maximum of two people have been allowed to meet who do not share an apartment and are not directly related to each other. Saxony-Anhalt is the first federal state to allow this expansion. The clear softening was criticized by other federal states such as Berlin. The background is the comparatively low infection rate in the country, as Prime Minister Reiner Haseloff (CDU) emphasized.
In addition, hairdressers, cosmetic, nail and foot care salons are allowed to open under hygiene requirements. Businesses are free to let customers in, regardless of the retail space and industry, if they limit the number of people in the store depending on the space. The Abitur exams start at schools. In addition, primary schools open for the first time and teach fourth graders. At secondary schools, young people are expected to take exams in the coming year. Single parents can bring their children to daycare centers nationwide.
There are also more options when it comes to leisure activities: after zoos and botanical gardens, museums, libraries and memorials can also reopen. Club sports are allowed outdoors if contact can be excluded and no more than five people train at a time. In addition, adult education centers and music schools can open up to five people for individual lessons or groups.
Schleswig-Holstein
In Schleswig-Holstein there have been further easings since Monday. Playgrounds, museums and hairdressing shops can open again. Second homes are again accessible to their owners. Outdoor areas of botanical parks and sports boat harbors can also be used. Permanent camping and church services are also possible again. Retirement and nursing homes can also allow visits again under strict precautions. Strict distance and hygiene requirements apply to all measures, some of which still have to be regulated. In addition, practical events that are necessary for teaching can take place again at the universities. Under strict precautions, old people’s homes and nursing homes can allow individual visitors for a maximum of two hours.
So-called low-contact sports can again be practiced outdoors. For individual leisure activities, entry into the country is again permitted.
Thuringia
Hair cutting, beauty treatments, occupational therapy: for several service sectors in Thuringia the week-long compulsory break due to the corona pandemic is over. Since Monday, hairdressers, beauticians and podiatrists have been back for their customers, as have ergo and physiotherapists with treatments without a doctor’s prescription. The easing decided by the state government and poured into a regulation at the weekend also affects retail. In compliance with distance regulations and hygiene standards, larger stores such as furniture stores can now reopen.
By contrast, the Thuringians have to live with at least until May 25th with the contact restriction, according to which members of a household can only meet together with a maximum of one other person.
Services and demonstrations have been allowed in the state since April 23, up to 30 participants are permitted in closed rooms and up to 50 in the open air. Zoos, botanical gardens, museums and galleries have been open since April 27th.
In addition, the spring semester at the universities and technical colleges begins on May 4, but without full lecture halls or seminar rooms. The courses are completely digital. On the other hand, for some of the students in Thuringia, learning at home ends with a computer, telephone and worksheets. Schoolchildren who want to acquire a major or a real qualification this year or who are completing the special performance assessment in the 10th grade at the high school will also return to school.
