Couple of doctors kidnapped by patient at Hospital de Setúbal

Threatened doctor called her husband. They were hit with chairs and table. Police forced to break in door.

A couple of doctors were beaten at the São Bernardo Hospital in Setúbal on the last day of the year by a patient who had waited for about four hours in the emergency room to be treated. The attacker began by threatening the doctor, who shouted for help from her husband, who is also a clinician. The two were kidnapped inside the office and targeted by the patient who threw their chairs and table upwards. The PSP agent on duty at the hospital had to break down the door to stop the assaults. The episode came four days after a 65-year-old female doctor was beaten by a patient in the same unit.

JN has learned from hospital sources that the sixty-year-old will have waited long hours before being called. Displeased, the patient began by verbally assaulting the doctor, Joana, who faced such behavior shouted by her husband, João, also hired in São Bernardo.
