Coronavirus, the latest news: positive 17 year old in Valtellina studying in Codogno

Measures

Prohibition of removal and entry into the “outbreak” areas of the virus, which will be manned by the police and, if necessary, also by the military, with criminal sanctions for those who violate the prescriptions. Stop to school trips in Italy and abroad, suspension of all public events, quarantine with “active surveillance” for all those who have been in contact with confirmed cases of the virus. And again, closing of schools, shops and museums, stops at competitions, private work activities and public offices, without prejudice to essential services, limitation on the movement of goods and people.

The list of municipalities

Measures limited to the outbreaks identified between Veneto and Lombardy and therefore in Vo ’Euganeo and Codogno, Castiglione d’Adda, Casalpusterlengo, Fombio, Maleo, Somaglia, Bertonico, Terranova dei Passerini, Castelgerundo and San Fiorano. These municipalities will be, for all intents and purposes, red zones: no entry or exit. “We have adopted a decree to protect the health of Italians, which is the one we care most about and which ranks first in the hierarchy of constitutional values” says Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, repeating several times that Italians “must trust” the politics and scientific institutions, which are doing everything possible. “Failure to comply with containment measures is punished pursuant to article 650 of the penal code”, which provides for a fine and arrest for up to 3 months. Heavy measures, therefore, which can also be extended to other areas if necessary.

Conte: “Italy is not a lazaretto”

“We must also be flexible because the measures taken today are not necessarily useful tomorrow,” admitted the Prime Minister. Instead, there will be no suspension of Schengen, as Matteo Salvini had asked when the government informed the opposition of the measures that would be taken. “We will always take measures in the sign of adequacy and proportionality – explained Conte -. Now there are no preconditions for requesting the suspension of the free movement of people. It is a draconian measure and disproportionate to the need to contain contagion. And then what do we want to make of Italy a lazaretto? There are no conditions, “said Conte clearly, claiming how the entire government assumes” full political responsibility “for the choices made. The prime minister also announced that in the coming days the government will launch another decree containing the economic and refreshment measures that will have to be put in place to deal with the suspension of all activities in the outbreak areas.

Cases in big cities

The positive cases have meanwhile reached the great cities of the North: it is a resident of Sesto San Giovanni hospitalized in the San Raffaele hospital for a week and a resident of Mediglia, in the hinterland south of the Lombard capital. The man, who was hospitalized in the Melegnano hospital, was then transferred to the Sacco in Milan. A case of infection was also recorded at the Amedeo di Savoia hospital in Turin. It is a 40-year-old man who has had contact with some of the people infected in Lombardy. The 40-year-old currently has a little fever, but it wouldn’t be serious. The family is monitored. The 40-year-old from Turin works in a company in Cesano Boscone, in Milan, where he came into contact with two infected people, father and son, hospitalized in the Sacco hospital in Milan in good condition. It started to feel bad on Thursday evening.

The zero patient in Lombardy

The man who until Saturday evening was considered the patient zero, is actually not zero at all. The friend of the 38-year-old from Codogno, who returned from China in February, is not the starting point of the coronavirus in Lombardy. That hypothesis was a mistake, they said from the Istituto Superiore di Sanità. He, who is 41 years old, didn’t develop antibodies so he didn’t contract the infection. Therefore he was not well because he was asymptomatic and was not negative on the test because he was cured. He was simply (and is) healthy, and it was not he who carried the virus in Lombardy. Not knowing who the patient zero is obviously complicates everything from the point of view of the spread of the infection.

The measures of the companies

In the meantime, companies and trade fairs are taking preventive measures. Generali’s new Milanese tower in Citylife, now one of the icons of the city, will be armored like an airport from Monday: thermal scanners installed at the entrances will measure the temperature of anyone – employee or visitor – will cross the threshold of the company’s headquarters. The stylist Giorgio Armani has decided to have his collection paraded behind closed doors, without guests, and the fashion show that was scheduled in Milan today will be recorded in an empty theater and streamed on the Armani.com website. Even Moncler, after the latest updates relating to coronavirus cases ascertained in Italy and the indications provided publicly by the competent authorities, has communicated that the opening to the public of Moncler Genius 2020 scheduled for February 23 has been canceled. Mido, the most important event in the eyewear sector worldwide scheduled from February 29 to March 2 in Milan, has decided to postpone the 2020 edition between the end of May and the first half of June.
