Update, May 15, 10:45 a.m.: Corona incidence in Saxony continues to fall, four regions under 100
In the case of the corona pandemic, there are also signs of a slight relaxation in Saxony. The number of new infections every day continued to decline on Saturday. According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the number of new infections reported per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days was 122.6. On Friday it was still 134. After Thuringia (132.1), Saxony is still the state with the highest seven-day incidence. Nationwide, it fell to 87.3 on Saturday. Schleswig-Holstein has the lowest value (39.1).
In Saxony itself there is still a very differentiated picture. With the district of central Saxony (238.1) and the Erzgebirgskreis (236.8), two of the three regions most severely affected nationwide are in the Free State. Only in Coburg 255.6 is the value even higher.
Four areas in Saxony are now below the threshold of 100: the cities of Leipzig (59.9) and Dresden (74.9) as well as the former Corona hotspot Vogtland (78.3) and northern Saxony (91.5).
The RKI registered 610 detected new infections and five further deaths for Saxony within 24 hours. Since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020, 277,434 people have been infected with the corona virus in the Free State. 9,372 women and men have died of or with Covid 19 disease.

Update, May 15, 8.15 a.m.: Kretschmer questions the federal government’s corona emergency brake
The Saxon Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer (CDU) has questioned the need for uniform nationwide rules in the fight against the corona pandemic. “The federal emergency brake caused a lot of excitement. It was not possible to convince the population of the necessity of these measures,” said the CDU politician to the newspapers of the Funke media group (Saturday).
It is true that it is legitimate for the federal legislature to act. “But we have to see that we are in a spiral that divides politics and the population. That is not good,” emphasized Kretschmer. “We should learn from this that regional decisions are better than federal intervention.”
The nationwide binding rules for stricter corona measures came into force on April 23. In counties and urban districts that have exceeded a seven-day incidence of 100 for three days, night exit restrictions have been in effect since then. With the uniform regulations, politicians want to prevent a patchwork quilt in the federal states. So far, they are limited until June 30th.

The Robert Koch Institute reported 73 new corona cases for Chemnitz on Saturday (as of 3.10 a.m.). This means that there have been 16,640 corona cases in the city since the beginning of the crisis.
The 7-day incidence per 100,000 population is now 143.3 (previous day: 143.3).

Update, May 14, 4:17 p.m.: Saxony’s family doctors should decide on the sequence of vaccinations themselves
After the vaccination sequence has been abolished in medical practices in Saxony from May 24th, resident doctors should decide for themselves who to provide the vaccine first. This was announced by the Ministry of Social Affairs on Friday after consultations with the Saxon State Medical Association and the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians in Saxony. For the vaccines from Astrazeneca and Johnson & Johnson, the prioritization in practices had already been lifted. In contrast, it will be retained in the Saxon vaccination centers and in the mobile teams.
“Doctors in private practice know their patients best and are very good at assessing who is most at risk and who should therefore be vaccinated,” said Health Minister Petra Köpping (SPD). Many doctors would address patients specifically in order to offer them a vaccination. “With our decision, we want to relieve the medical practices as much as possible in terms of organization and scheduling, so that they can carry out vaccinations with the greatest possible flexibility.”
In order to relieve family doctors, visits to the doctor that are not absolutely necessary should be avoided or postponed until the summer vacation, it said. This applies, for example, to routine controls and the discussion of laboratory results. Köpping: “I would like to ask all patients for your understanding. But in the current situation the fastest possible immunization of the population has top priority. Therefore, I ask everyone to postpone medical appointments that are not absolutely necessary. But it is also clear that anyone who needs medical help will of course get it still in his family doctor’s practice. There are no compromises. “
According to the Ministry of Health, 1.85 million vaccinations have been administered in Saxony so far; 14.4 percent of the population are fully vaccinated.

Update, May 14, 11.50 a.m.: Musikrat collects over 88,000 euros in donations for free artists
Since the beginning of the corona pandemic, the Saxon Music Council has collected more than 88,000 euros in donations for freelance musicians. With the lockdown, many of them had lost all opportunity to perform. The donations were used to organize appearances in and in front of charitable institutions, for which the participating artists could receive a small fee, as the music council announced on Friday.
In the last action, a musical Easter walk, 85 artists performed in more than 35 charitable institutions, for example in retirement homes, children’s hospices and shared apartments for people with disabilities. The Aid Fund of the Music Council has reportedly financed four such actions.

Update, May 14, 9.47 a.m.: Corona incidence in Saxony decreased, easing in Leipzig
The number of daily new corona infections continues to decline in Saxony. According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the number of new infections reported per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days on Friday was 134. On Thursday, the incidence was 140.1. This means that Saxony is still the most severely affected state after Thuringia (148). Nationwide, the incidence value on Friday fell below the threshold of 100 for the first time in a long time – the new infection rate was 97.
The situation is still different within the Free State, even if the number of infections is falling everywhere. As the first city, Leipzig (68.3) has been able to relax since Friday and open outdoor restaurants, holiday apartments and campsites.
Dresden, too – currently with an incidence of 87.3 according to the RKI – can hope for easing from the middle of next week. The district of Northern Saxony was also below the critical 100 limit on Friday. With incidence values above 200, the Ore Mountains and the Central Saxony district are particularly affected.

Hope for a life without the fear of a serious corona disease and a bit of normality. “
