More violence against railway workers
The violence against train attendants has increased over the past year. There were 2,070 violent crimes against train attendants and other railway employees – 421 more than in the previous year. This emerges from the government’s response to a request from the left in the Bundestag, which the dpa news agency has received. The left-wing MP Sabine Zimmermann had made the request. She criticized the fact that the enforcement of the mask requirement actually burdened the train attendants with police duties.

Kiel State Parliament talks about holiday returnees
Im Schleswig-Holstein Landtag is debated today, among other things, about the dangers of holiday returnees. Because last year, the pandemic came back in bulk with the travelers returning. CDU parliamentary group leader Tobias Koch therefore spoke in advance for area-wide border controls and compulsory testing for returnees. He hopes that the federal government will have learned from the 2020 experience. FDP parliamentary group leader Christopher Vogt also sees the federal government as having a duty here. Marret Bohn von den Grünen does not consider the situation to be comparable given the progress made in vaccination. However, it is necessary to react quickly to new risk areas. Opposition leader Ralf Stegner from the SPD is critical of the blanket demand for border controls for those returning to travel. This would have to be recommended by experts beforehand.

Some federal states want to continue operating vaccination centers
According to a survey by the German Press Agency, Lower Saxony, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Bavaria, for example, want to operate the vaccination centers longer than until the end of September, i.e. longer than previously planned. In Hamburg, the plans depend on the further vaccination campaign. Bavaria’s Minister of Health Klaus Holetschek (CSU) called for the federal government to secure funding by the end of the year. Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) said last week that the health ministers should discuss the extent to which the vaccination centers in the federal states should be preserved to a certain extent – also with a view to possible booster vaccinations in autumn. The German District Association can imagine continued operation. “The centers should not be closed before a decent level of vaccination has been achieved,” said the President of the German District Association, Reinhard Sager, of the “Rheinische Post”. The Central Institute for Statutory Health Insurance, on the other hand, pointed out that most of the vaccinations had previously been administered in practices. The booster vaccinations could also take place there.

Health ministers discuss stricter entry rules
The federal and state health ministers meet today to discuss various corona issues. The agenda includes the problems of children and adolescents in the pandemic, the future of vaccination centers and the long-term consequences of Covid-19. According to a press report, the countries are also pushing for stricter entry regulations. The background to this is the danger posed by the new delta variant of the corona virus. It first appeared in India. As the magazine “Business Insider” reports, the health ministers want to tighten the rules that currently apply to entry from simple risk areas.

Incidence in Lower Saxony continues to fall to 7.4
The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) has reported 112 new infections with the corona virus confirmed by laboratory diagnostics in Lower Saxony. The seven-day incidence falls in the national average to 7.4 cases per 100,000 inhabitants (8.5 on the previous day). According to the RKI, there were three more deaths nationwide within one day.

RKI registers 1,455 new corona infections – incidence at 13.2
The health authorities in Germany reported 1,455 new infections to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) within one day. A week ago the value was 3,254 infections. According to the information, 137 new deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours. A week ago there were 107 deaths. The RKI gives the seven-day incidence nationwide as 13.2 (previous day: 15.5; previous week: 20.8). The nationwide seven-day R-value is currently 0.72 (previous day: 0.77).

Ciesek: The introduction of virus variants can hardly be prevented
Mutations are expected to play a big role in the further development of the pandemic. In Germany, the alpha variant, which was first discovered in south-east England, still dominates. According to the Robert Koch Institute, the rate of the delta variant first discovered in India is currently around three percent. The virologist Sandra Ciesek expects that the delta virus variant will also prevail in us. “Of course, traveling is a danger,” says the scientist. One behaves differently on vacation, when traveling long-distance there are often different hygienic conditions. Re-entry by car, train or ship is not as easy to control as by plane. The introduction of virus variants into low-incidence areas, as is currently the case in Germany, can hardly be prevented. You saw that last summer. “The important thing is to postpone this as much as possible in order to vaccinate as many people as possible,” said Ciesek in the NDR Info Podcast.
