Hamburg Airport expects up to 70 percent of normal traffic

Hamburg Airport expects 60 to 70 percent of the travel traffic in the summer compared to 2019. The airlines reacted very quickly to the booking behavior, said a spokeswoman for Helmut Schmidt Airport. When Mallorca allowed tourism again at Easter, people immediately booked flights. Now the summer holidays are approaching. “The North Germans sit on packed suitcases,” said the spokeswoman. At the moment, however, there are still travel barriers due to the pandemic. At the moment, the passenger volume is 15 to 20 percent of the level of June 2019. The take-offs and landings in total made up 20 to 35 percent of the numbers before the pandemic. 83 percent of the airport employees are still on short-time work, said the spokeswoman.

Local traffic in MV is feeling the recovery

With the local transport companies in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, a slight sigh of relief can be felt after the end of the lockdown. The consequences of the crisis can still be felt, but the number of passengers is rising significantly. “This is particularly evident in city traffic,” said Thomas Nienkerk, Managing Director of Rebus Regionalbus Rostock in Güstrow. The increase is urgently needed, because the occupancy rate was only 30 percent of the pre-Corona level in some cases. Rostocker Straßenbahn AG (RSAG) is also registering the growing demand. “In lockdown there were only around 50 percent of the passengers, now we are back at 80 percent,” said RSAG spokeswoman Beate Langner. The missing 20 percent are also due to missing events or the previous absence of tourists and students. Langner assumes that the volume will initially level off between 80 and 90 percent. “The loosening can be felt immediately”, emphasized the managing director of Nahverkehr Schwerin, Wilfried Eisenberg. The numbers went up. He reckons it will take three to four years before the previous level is reached.

RKI registers 1,911 new corona infections – incidence at 18.3

The health authorities reported 1,911 new corona infections to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) within one day. The RKI stated the seven-day incidence this morning as 18.3 infections per 100,000 inhabitants nationwide – the previous day it was 18.6, a week ago today it was 26.3. According to the information, 129 new deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours. A week ago there were 122 dead. The RKI has counted 3,713,480 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic. The nationwide seven-day R-value was 0.83 (previous day: 0.79) according to the RKI situation report from Friday evening. This means that 100 infected people theoretically infect 83 more people. The R-value represents the occurrence of the infection 8 to 16 days ago. If it is below 1 for a longer period of time, the infection process subsides; if it is consistently higher, the number of cases increases.
