Corona easing: Youth hostels look forward to school classes | NDR.de – News – Schleswig-Holstein

Status: 01.06.2021 5:00 a.m.

Good news for the youth hostels in Schleswig-Holstein. Your core business – namely the school trips and group offers – are possible again after the latest Corona easing from May 31st.

So far, only two households have been allowed to share a room or a table in the dining room. School trips were so impossible. The youth hostels were threatened with considerable loss of income, as the German Youth Hostel Association (DJH) announced two weeks ago. But since yesterday, further corona easing has applied in Schleswig-Holstein. In the youth hostels in the state, schoolchildren are now allowed to occupy four- to six-bed rooms again. Up to ten people can now sit at one table in the dining room.

First school classes arrived

In the youth hostels there should be a lot going on in the hallways soon.

The first school classes have already arrived in two youth hostels in the north. Hostel father Ole Brief from the youth hostel Borgwedel an der Schlei (Schleswig-Flensburg district) is happy about the easing – and the first group. A 4th class from Rendsburg has been “raging” over the outdoor area and through the hostel since Monday. Two school classes from Lübeck have already moved into their rooms in the youth hostel on Fehmarn (Ostholstein district). Michael Spiegel from Büsum Youth Hostel (Dithmarschen district) has many school class bookings in September and expects all classes to come. His modernized accommodation was fully booked for the first time on the weekend of Pentecost after a month-long Corona break.

Hope for a good school trip season in autumn

A spokesman for the German Youth Hostel Association (DJH) said that after the easing, he hoped for a good school trip season in autumn. So far 150,000 overnight stays have been booked, at least a good 75 percent compared to previous corona-free years.

Compliance with strict guidelines

However, guests have to consider a few things upon arrival – including showing negative tests (max. 48 hours old for the rapid antigen test / PCR). Additional evidence must be provided every 72 hours. Fully vaccinated people (basically two vaccinations and at least 14 days after the second vaccination) and those who have recovered do not have to present a negative test. The rules in detail can be found on the website of the state government.
