KONTAN.CO.ID – SEOUL. The spike in corona virus cases in South Korea, especially in the capital, Seoul, has made the government re-enforce the obligation to use masks when in public places.
Sunday (23/8), Seoul mayor Seo Jeong-hyup announced that starting Monday (8/24), Seoul residents are required to wear masks when in public. This was done after a few hours earlier, South Korea reported 397 cases of the new corona virus in the last 24 hours.
South Korea is struggling to contain the spread of Covid-19 nationwide. There have been around 2,600 new cases in the past 10 days, following a stretch where daily cases held in double digits.

Under the mandate, Seoul residents must wear masks and face masks at all times in public, except when they eat or drink.
Seoul residents have been asked to keep wearing masks when using public transportation since May 13.
“Wearing a mask is the basis of quarantine in everyday life,” said Seo. “Our citizens are very cooperative with the mandate about wearing masks on public transport. I hope they will once again set new social norms.”
