Police have identified all 14 victims of the shooting at Charles University’s Faculty of Philosophy, Prague police chief Petr Matejczyk said at a press conference on Friday, adding that the shooter committed suicide.

All those killed were citizens of the Czech Republic. The Institute of Musical Sciences has confirmed that its director Lenka Glavkova has died.

25 people were injured, including three foreigners – two from the United Arab Emirates and one from the Netherlands.

Authorities believe the 24-year-old shooter is involved in several other murders, including the killing of his own father.

Czech media reported that before opening fire at the university, he wrote about his intentions in a Telegram channel, which for an unknown reason he ran in Russian. It is not known for certain whether this was an automatic transfer; the account has now been deleted.

In his messages, a student of the Faculty of Philosophy, David Kozak, in particular, wrote that he was “inspired” by the bloody shooting in Bryansk, Russia, which was carried out by a 14-year-old schoolgirl in early December.

Details about the possible motive of the shooter have not been released. But his possible connection with terrorist groups is denied. Police concluded that he acted alone.

Czech police have stepped up security at schools and other public buildings across the country, and Prague’s Charles University has canceled all lectures and events. People carry flowers and light candles in memory of the victims at a makeshift memorial organized by the university’s crisis headquarters.

Leaders of many countries, including the United States, expressed condolences to the families of the victims and the Czech government. Saturday has been declared a day of mourning in the Czech Republic for those killed.

As Radio Prague reports, this massacre is the most tragic shooting incident in the modern history of the Czech Republic.
