War Will Break Out If Support Taiwan Independence

WASHINGTON – Support for independence Taiwan can trigger military conflict United States of America (US) with China . This was stated by the Chinese Ambassador to the US.

In an interview with US radio, China’s Ambassador to the US Qin Gang said China and the US could end up in a military conflict if Washington pushed for Taiwan independence.

China regards the democratically ruled neighboring island of Taiwan as a “sacred” territory and has never abandoned the use of force to ensure eventual unity.

“Let me emphasize. The Taiwan issue is the biggest problem between China and the United States,” Qin Gang told National Public Radio on Friday evening local time.

“If the Taiwanese authorities, pushed by the United States, continue on the path to independence, it will most likely (will) engage China and the United States, the two great powers, in a military conflict,” he added. CNN, Saturday (29/1/2022).

Asked for comment, the US Department of Defense said the United States remained committed to its “one China” policy and its commitments under the US Taiwan Relations Act.

Under the old policy, Washington officially recognized Beijing rather than Taipei, while the move required the United States to provide Taiwan with the means to defend itself.

“We will continue to assist Taiwan in maintaining adequate self-defense capabilities while also maintaining our own capacity to resist the use of any force that would jeopardize the security of the Taiwanese people,” a Pentagon spokesman said.
