Luyten already has a 13-year-old son from her marriage to sports journalist Frank Raes, Bill. Luyten is certainly not the only woman who becomes pregnant after her 40th birthday. “We notice across Europe that there is an unrealistic optimism about motherhood. Women think that at 40 they can still become a mother as perfectly and easily as at 20, but that is a persistent misunderstanding,” said Ilse Delbaere, PhD. medical sciences and midwifery teacher at VIVES University of Applied Sciences.
“These kinds of stories in the media also reinforce that image, although it is perfectly possible that Cath Luyten effectively enjoyed a carefree and natural pregnancy in her 40s.”
