cars with powerful engines are more likely to get into accidents

Toyota is one of the brands whose car damage data varies quite a bit. 36% of models with less powerful engines are damaged, while cars with 200-300 kW engines – 39.5%. However, “Toyota” does not have models with an engine exceeding 400 kW, which could possibly increase the damage statistics.

BMW’s research stood out significantly – 60.3% of cars with an engine power of up to 100 kW have been damaged. On the other hand, those models whose power exceeds 400 kW have been involved in accidents in 68.6% of cases.

“Although all vehicles must comply with road traffic rules and regulations, it seems that owners of more powerful cars speed more often and take higher risks. There is no car brand where less powerful models get into accidents more often,” says Mats Buzelis, auto industry expert and “carVertical” communications manager.

Some cars are up to seven times more powerful

Of all the vehicle brands tested by “carVertical”, “Bentley” recorded the highest average engine power – 415 kW or 564 horsepower (HP). The luxury car manufacturer is closely followed by “Maserati” (268 kW/364 hp), “Cadillac” (264 kW/359 hp), “Tesla” (263 kW/358 hp) and “Porsche” (257 kW/349 hp).

Although the study observed that the vehicle history is more often investigated for cars with more powerful engines, “carVertical” tends to look at the data of less powerful vehicles as well.

The lowest average engine power was observed for “Smart” brand cars – 59 kW or 80 horsepower. Of course, “Dacia” (72 kW/98 HP), “Lancia” (77 kW/105 HP), “Fiat” (83 kW/113 HP) and “Suzuki” (87 kW/118 HP) brand vehicles are not far behind. .

According to Buzel, a serious accident history can cause “red lights” to turn on for buyers, thinking about possible problems in the future. Therefore, it is important to talk to a professional auto mechanic and find out if the damage to the car can affect its long-term use.
