Tuxtla Gutiérrez.- A judge admitted the withdrawal of the criminal action of the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) and resolved that 91 students from the Mactumactzá Rural Normal School and four displaced from Chenalhó, released from the El Amate penitentiary center, were released unconditionally, reported official sources.
The students and the Tzotziles were arrested on May 18 when they blocked the toll booth of the toll road from San Cristóbal de las Casas to Tuxtla Gutiérrez, as a measure of pressure to demand the application of face-to-face exams for the new entrance to Mactumatzá .
During the operation, the riot police secured two vehicles carrying explosive devices (firecrackers) and recovered four buses that moments before were illegally detained by the protesters.
Derived from a day of protests led by Section 7 of the SNTE, integrated into the CNTE, most of the normalistas were released on parole; 19 were subject to prosecution for committing the crimes of riot, gang membership, robbery with violence, attacks against the peace and bodily and patrimonial integrity of the community and the state, and damages.
The young people were later released on parole and, like the rest of their companions, had to go to court every 15 days at El Amate.
In a hearing held this Tuesday at the Control Court and Prosecution Court, located in El Amate, the state judge received and gave way “to the request for withdrawal from the judicial process, guaranteeing strict adherence to the law.”
Ministerial and jurisdictional authorities indicated that in compliance with due process and at the request of the agent of the Public Ministry, the judge of the State Judicial Power “gave legal compliance to the withdrawal of the criminal action against the 95 people, including 74 women and 21 men. “.
