By 2025, the Spanish GDP is expected to benefit from nearly 26,000 million thanks to the Microsoft cloud.

The Microsoft cloud will contribute close to 26,000 million to the Spanish GDP in the next three years. Of these, the cloud region of Spanish data centers, which the firm will open in the coming months, will generate an economic impact of 2,500 million, according to a report prepared by IDC at the request of the company.

Furthermore, according to the study “Economic and social impact of the Microsoft Cloud in Spain”, Microsoft, its collaborating companies and the clients that use its cloud will create, together, more than 62,000 new jobs in Spain between 2022 and 2025. Of them, 22,000 will be direct jobs and 40,000 will be generated indirectly in other organizations.

For Enrique Ruiz, director of the next Microsoft cloud region in Spain, this “is going to become a growth engine for our country’s economy. It is associated with strong investments, the creation of jobs, and the generation of business local in the partner ecosystem and in our customers”.

The manager also underlines that it will help to overcome some of the barriers to the adoption of the cloud in Spain, especially in the public sector and regulated companies, “which present specific data sovereignty requirements”, as well as in those organizations that require very low latency in their communications.

The study calculates that the company and its partners will contribute more than 4,000 million euros to Spanish society through taxation on direct jobs and income between 2022 and 2025. In addition, they will jointly invest more than 3,100 million euros until 2025 to support your growing cloud business.

The sectors that will benefit the most from this impact, according to this document, are tourism, transport and professional services, both in the generation of new income derived from the Microsoft cloud ecosystem, and in the creation of new jobs. They are followed by the industrial sector, financial services and retail.

The cloud has become one of the main priorities for companies, as it is key to accelerating the digitization of organizations and a fundamental pillar for generating income and reducing costs. Its maturity in Spain has evolved significantly in recent years, with many organizations moving a large part of workloads to a “Cloud First” approach.

“Cloud-backed IT infrastructure serves to maintain business continuity as business models shift from physical to digital. Organizations must ensure reliable digital services and experiences as technology architecture becomes a critical pillar of business architecture,” Ruiz said.
