On Friday evening, March 25th, 2022, around 8 p.m., a couple first noticed a rattling of windows in their residential property and then left their house together to look for the origin of the noise.
The couple found a broken window on the back of their granny flat. A young man, who was initially unknown, suddenly approached and stabbed the husband several times seriously injured by knife wounds and kicks.
After the perpetrator was initially able to flee undetected, a large-scale manhunt was launched in which a police helicopter and tracking dogs were deployed that night.
Extensive investigations led to the identification of the urgent suspect, for whom the Freiburg district court ordered a public search with a photograph the following day.
The urgent suspect was then arrested without resistance on March 26th, 2022, around 10 p.m. by police forces in the area of Eichstetten train station.
This is a 28-year-old man from the local region who has appeared to the police several times in the past. He is a German citizen and has no permanent address
The day before, on March 24th, 2022, the accused allegedly broke into an apartment by force around 6:00 p.m., also in Eichstetten, with the help of an ax found on site. He was then surprised by the resident and recognized personally, whereupon he injured him in the scuffle and fled. Because of this act, the Freiburg district court issued an arrest warrant at the request of the Freiburg public prosecutor’s office on March 25th, 2022.
