Beloved Actor Andre Braugher, Known for Roles in “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and “Homicide,” Dies at 61

It’s a shock for fans of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine”: Andre Braugher, who starred as district boss Captain Raymond Holt on the internationally successful comedy for eight seasons, has died at the age of 61. The actor, who also became known for a leading role in the crime drama “Homicide,” died after a short, serious illness, his agent announced. Braugher is survived by his wife of 32 years, Ami Brabson, and three children.

Andre Keith Braugher was the youngest of four children and grew up in Chicago. He initially aspired to a career in medicine, but during his studies he discovered his love for acting. During his early years as an actor in New York, he frequently appeared in Shakespeare plays in Central Park.

Andre Braugher played a police officer in his first permanent television role. He appeared as Detective Winston Blake in the television film sequels to “Kojak” in 1989 and 1990.
