Bayern chairman Rummenigge wants to finish the season in September if necessary NOW

Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge is keen to finish the football season despite the corona crisis. The boss of the German top club wants to continue until September and start the new season in winter.

“If there is no other option given the health risks and the political aspect, we should apply that scenario,” Rummenigge told Frankfurt news agency Monday evening DPA.

“We have to finish the season anyway. Not only because of the sporting justice, but of course also to keep the economic damage as small as possible. Bayern will also have financial difficulties if they don’t play football for a long time.”

Due to the COVID-19 virus, it is as yet unclear whether European competitions can be completed. Earlier on Monday, it was announced that UEFA will address the issue on Wednesday.

The Bundesliga will meet on Tuesday in Frankfurt to discuss the situation, but, like all other leagues, will ultimately depend on what UEFA decides. Two working groups of the European Football Association have recently conducted research.

Bayern leads the Bundesliga after 25 rounds of play. Der Rekordmeister is four points ahead of competitor Borussia Dortmund.

The coronavirus in short

  • The coronavirus mainly spreads from person to person via sneezing and cough drops. The chance of becoming infected through surfaces such as door handles is small. This chance decreases if you wash your hands often.
  • You can considerably reduce the chance of spreading by keeping at least 1.5 meters away from others.
  • An infected person infects two to three others on average. Precautions are necessary to contain this.
  • The vast majority of patients have mild (flu-like) complaints.
  • Almost all deaths involve the elderly or other vulnerable persons, such as heart, lung or diabetes patients. If everyone complies with the measures, this reduces their risks.
