Bawaslu proposes to discuss postponement options for Pilkada 2024 in Jakarta

Jakarta

Bawaslu proposes to discuss postponement options Pilkada 2024 which is scheduled to be held in November 2024. General Chairperson of the Democratic Party (Ketum PD) Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (ME) admitted that he would study the proposal first.

“I haven’t discussed it specifically, I want to learn first what the reasons are Bawaslu to deliver the discourse because as far as I know, everything has been well planned,” AHY told reporters at the Democratic DPD, Kemang, South Jakarta, Friday (14/7/2023).

AHY said he would study possible technical reasons to political reasons regarding the proposed postponement of the 2024 Pilkada. He said he would hold dialogue with experts and the public if he responded to the issue.

“If the argument is technical, because it is too close to the election, for example, let’s try to check it again, we have to study it again, but if there are other reasons such as political reasons, yes, of course we will study that too,” he said.

“I don’t want to give a direct response, I usually want if there are issues like that, I will sit together, I invite members of the faction, a number of experts, including listening to the voice of the people, what our society wants,” he added.

Bawaslu Suggests Postponing the 2024 Pilkada

Previously, Bawaslu propose to discuss delay options Pilkada 2024 which is scheduled to be held in November 2024. What is the reason?

This was conveyed by Bawaslu Chairman Rahmat Bagja during the Coordination Meeting of State Ministries and Institutions held by the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) Jakarta, Wednesday (13/7). Bagja expressed a number of concerns if the Pilkada were held in November 2024.

“We are actually worried that the 2024 election will be due to the November 2024 vote, where in October there will be a new presidential inauguration, of course with ministers and officials who may change,” said Bagja in his statement, Thursday (13/7).

“Therefore, we propose that we should discuss the option of postponing the election (pilkada) because this is the first time it is simultaneous,” he continued.

He also alluded to a number of potential disruptions if the 2024 Pilkada were held simultaneously. One of them, said Bagja, is a security issue.

“If previously, for example the regional elections in Makassar there were security disturbances, then there could be deployments from the surrounding police or police from other provinces. If the 2024 regional elections are of course difficult because every region is on standby to hold a similar election,” he said.

Bagja also said there were several other problems such as updating voter data, procurement and distribution of Pilkada logistics such as ballots, and the workload of election organizers that was too high. In addition, he also alluded to the not yet optimal synergy between Bawaslu and KPU regarding KPU Regulations (PKPU) and Bawaslu Regulations (Perbawaslu).

“There are a lot of problems with voter data, to the extent that one family from a different TPS (polling place) is even angry. Likewise ballots, there are many problems, for example the shortage of ballots from TPS A to TPS B can also cause problems. ,” he said.
