Ballet Hispánico premieres “Buscando a Juan” at the Met

Ballet Hispánico will present the piece “Buscando a Juan,” by Eduardo Vilaro, as part of the MetLiveArts summer 2023 season, July 13-15 at The Robert Lehman Wing at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. In his most recent work, the artistic director and general director of the Ballet Hispánico is inspired by the exhibition Juan de Pareja, Afro-Hispanic painter. The MetLiveArts commission, which features dancers from the Ballet Hispánico, explores sancocho, or a mix of cultures and diasporas, and will consider the assumptions experienced when witnessing people of color in blank spaces regarding the exotic body and fixation on gestures and sensuality. Maison 10 Gallery is exhibiting PSYCHE-ATOMIC, a show in which Venezuelan-American artist Alejandra Mandelblum explores how subatomic energies and worlds could appear if they were made visible. In her first New York solo show, Mandelblum takes a contemporary psychedelic approach by conjuring the dimensions of imagined quantum realms. Her thought-provoking paintings invite viewers to immerse themselves in colorful new worlds that challenge our concepts of consciousness, separation, and perception. With a distinctive style that combines vibrant tones and organic geometries, her paintings are vivid, beautiful, and also haunting.
