Baudet responds to ‘Moroccan’ tweet: ‘Expressed too quickly and too firmly’ NOW

Forum for Democracy leader Thierry Baudet says on Monday that he said “too fast and too firm” about what he described as Moroccans harassing two of his girlfriends on the train. Baudet writes that on Facebook. It turned out to be a ticket check from the Dutch Railways.

The message on Facebook gives the impression that Baudet knew it was a card check. The FVD leader was also unavailable on Monday for a further explanation.

According to Baudet, the women were “highly unpleasantly treated”. They had told him “seriously upset” about the check.

“I then expressed myself on social media – too quickly, and too firmly,” said Baudet. He adds that he has taken control “too hastily in a broader political context”, namely in the context of immigration and integration.

How the card check is related to this is not clear.

Baudet posted on social media last weekend that four of his girlfriends would have been harassed by four Moroccans. In reality, it concerned NS civilian staff who carried out a ticket check. A police officer was also involved in the inspection.

According to Baudet, “gun equipment” would have been shown, but the NS inform the inspectors that they are not authorized to carry weapons. The civilian officer, who later joined the inspectors, is competent.

Police are considering reporting against Baudet

The Dutch Railways emphasizes that civilian checks are routine. The NS also writes this on the website. The controls are always announced first, according to a spokesperson. That also happened during the checks of Baudet’s friends.

The National Police announced earlier on Monday whether or not Baudet had committed a criminal offense.

A spokesman for politics says that agents feel hurt by Baudet’s statements. “These are colleagues who have a public task: they ensure safety.” It is considered to make a report against the representative of the people.

The police spokesman calls the contested tweet of the FVD member “totally out of the air”.
