Baudet refuses apology to NS staff: “Well, it did happen”

The incident in the train turned out to be a ticket check by civilian conductors, but that was not mentioned in Baudet’s tweet.

Although the inspectors could identify themselves, the women did not want to believe that they were NS employees. Then an agent was called in who was also on the train.

Baudet later wrote in a statement that he initially expressed himself ‘too quickly and too firmly’. Jaïr Ferwerda, reporter at Jinek, wanted to know from Baudet if he was also prepared to apologize about something that had not happened.

“It did happen”

“Well it did happen,” Baudet responded. “The only question is: what exactly was the migration background of the people? That is then a discussion.”

The politician said that he had understood from Roger van Boxtel, CEO of NS, that it was “different.” “Well, that’s right.” He did not want to apologize, however. “I would not know to whom. But I said: I made a mistake and I would like to leave it at that.”

Jinek’s journalist pursued Baudet far into the building of the Lower House. He accused Baudet of having made a political statement and using an example that turned out to be incorrect. “Well, not, not …”. the FvD leader responded. “It may be a bit more nuanced. What exactly the migration background was from these specific people, this group, that is then disputed, that is not entirely clear.”

Previous reaction from the Dutch Railways

Earlier this week, the Dutch Railways said: “We are right behind the actions of our colleagues and the police officer involved. We are entirely responsible for describing what has happened on the train. We have taken note of his apologies. the case now behind him. ”
